I decided to write this Daily Entry because of the Disney World Planning fastpass+ guide I wrote last week. This is a great example of why you NEED fast passes and a touring plan. Especially with Frozen Ever After (currently the most popular ride on Disney property). This happened when my family and I visited Disney in November of 2016. I have 3 siblings who are obsessed with Frozen. Especially my sister Maggie. We were lucky enough to obtain a fast pass to Frozen Ever After at 8:15pm the ONLY day we were going to be there (yes!). My stepmom decided it was a good idea to use the technique from my fast pass guide and arrive at the park at opening and dash to the ride. We had heard from multiple touring guides and bloggers that this ride breaks down easily and will for long periods of time. This is because Frozen Ever After is still on the old track of Maelstrom, but there is tons of new technology on the track. These two systems don't always work well together causing it to break down frequently. Since Maggie was looking forward to this ride we decided to not risk it. We ended up LITERALLY running (with tons of other moms and strollers) and got there with only a 25 min wait! The que line is so cool actually, and I was glad we were able to wait in it. My sister LOVED the ride and so did my brothers. Since my brother Patrick is 3 and couldn't ride any of the other tier two rides, we decided to keep our fast pass and go back to it after dinner!! Soooo, we did our thing, had a great day, and finally at 8:30pm arrived back at Frozen Ever After. At this point the ride was 130 min long! We were happy to have a fastpass. We got in line and around 20 min in to waiting... it happened. The ride broke down for the night.... I'm not kidding when I say that it was a MADHOUSE in this small waiting area. People were screaming and crying it was awful. My stepmom turned to me and was like "THANK GOD! We rode it this morning...". But then it dawned on me, some of these people had just waited 130 min to be told they weren't going to ride the ride. Even 45 min + waiting for a ride and it breaking down is awful and frustrating. Some people woke up at the crack of dawn and got fastpasses for that ride that night, and because of that maybe even missed out on Test Track or Soarin'. People were mad and frustrated and some, even hysterical. But obviously there was nothing anyone could do. People were yelling at the workers saying "it's my last day in this park and I waited for 100 min what am I supposed to do!?". The workers were handing everyone a fast pass for the ride for the next 10 days for anytime but again.. some were leaving the next day. I felt so bad for the workers in that moment. Obviously they didn't do anything wrong and people were VERY upset with them. In that moment I think it would have been good for people to remember that it's no ones fault and there's nothing anyone could do about it. But, I get it, planning (sometimes) a once in a lifetime trip for months and to have this happen is probably the most frustrating thing ever. So we took the fast passes, but we obviously were not going to be back the next day. We ended giving them to an older couple who WAS going back the next day and they said they were going to hand them to people standing in line. That's the spirit! Yes it was a sucky situation but, now there was an opportunity to make someone else's trip even more magical. That's what it's all about.
I guess the lession here is. GO TO DISNEY WITH A TOURING PLAN AND FAST PASSES. FAST PASSES ARENT ALWAYS GUARANTEED. BE NICE AND UNDERSTANDING TO PEOPLE. Now that this story time is over if you want to know the ins and outs of fast passes so this doesn't happen to you, click here.
